This year’s trick or treat hours in the city of Schenectady will be officially observed on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Here are some safety tips to help insure a safe night.
Plan a route: Stick to paths that you and your child are familiar with to avoid getting lost.
Wear comfy shoes: With all the walking you will be doing, you don’t want to get sore feet. Also, you want to avoid possible sprains from shoes that don’t fit well.
Stay well lit: It’s important that your little witches and ghouls are seen by other people, and most importantly, drivers. Have your kids carry a flashlight or glow sticks so they can be seen in the dark. Or you can apply reflective tape to their costume or their treat containers.
Avoid masks: Masks can be fun and scary, but they can also obstruct your vision. You want to make sure that you can see everything around you when walking. Try using non-toxic face paint to finish your costume.
Remove face paint when finished: If you do end up using face paint for your costume, make sure you remove it before they go to bed to avoid any possible irritation.
Use flexible props: Let’s face it, if your little pirate ends up crossing paths with another swash buckler, they will prob get into a sword fight. There’s no need for injuries, so use foam or rubber props.
Check your candy: When sorting through candy at the end of the night, be sure to throw away any candy that is not in its original wrapper, or looks as though it has been opened.
We hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
