Welcome to the Schenectady Fire Department

This web page is administered by the Schenectady Permanent Firefighters Association (SPFA). This site has been in the works for some time and it is still a work in progress. We invite you to explore the many areas of our site and we encourage you to visit as we attempt to grow this site into a “one of a kind” experience to all of those who use it.

The SPFA is an organization that is comprised of active and retired members of the Schenectady Fire Department that is found in upstate New York, about 20 miles west of Albany. It is the mission of the SPFA to enhance and protect the well being of the members of the Schenectady Fire Department in any manner possible. This is accomplished by many different ways. There are numerous events during the year that are designed to promote the brotherhood that exists at the Schenectady Fire Department and to the fire service in general. The SPFA also provides its members many services that are very beneficial.

The SPFA is very involved in the community. Two organizations that we are involved with are the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Sunnyview Hospital. It is very common to see SPFA members participating in MDA fundraisers like “MDA Boot Day” and the “MDA Lock-up”. The SPFA also has a close relationship with Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, New York. The SPFA was instrumental in establishing the hospital in the mid 1920′s. Our members work hard to give back to our community. You may find the us at blood pressure clinics, neighborhood clean-up days or teaching fire safety at one of the many schools in the city.

It is our hope that this website will allow our visitors to stay in contact with the Schenectady Fire Department. The viewer will learn about our department as we operate today. We will be posting all current events and news items. Our gallery will be updated with photos of our latest events along with fires and other calls of interest. History and tradition are vital to the fire service. So, we have included our two yearbooks that you may view. We will have information on fire safety as well as fire prevention. You will have the opportunity to stay updated on training, both EMS and the Fire Service.

Welcome again to our site. We are pleased that you have taken the time to visit us. Feel free to take advantage of everything this site has to offer. Please visit us again real soon.

Thank you,

Don Mareno SPFA President
